CIRCUMSTANCES REQUIRING STA

WIOD (610 KHZ, 5KW/5/KW, DA-2), MIAMI, FLORIDA, HAS OPERATED AT 10 KW DAY AND NIGHT SINCE JUNE 16, 1981, PURSUANT TO AUTHORITY ISSUED BY THE FCC, IN ORDER TO OVERCOME THE EFFECTS OF CUBAN INTERFERENCE. ON NOVEMBER 26, 2002, THIS NON-EXPIRING AUTHORITY WAS FORMALLY CONVERTED TO AN STA. THE STA, AS EXTENDED, WILL EXPIRE ON DECEMBER 10, 2009. ACCORDINGLY, APPLICANT RESPECTFULLY REQUESTS A FURTHER 6-MONTH EXTENSION OF THE STA TO OPERATE AT 10 KW DAY AND NIGHT TO OVERCOME THE CONTINUING EFFECTS CUBAN INTERFERENCE.
