NEED FOR STA

THE GROUNDWAVE MEASUREMENTS NECESSARY TO FILE A FCC 301 SUPPORTING RELOCATION AND PERMANENT FACILITIES OF WHYL-AM (960 KHZ 1.3 KW-D STA) AT THE TOWER OF COMMONLYL-OWNED WCAT-FM NEAR CARLISLE, PA ARE ALMOST COMPLETE. MEASUREMENTS ON ADJACENT CHANNEL WKDN (950 KHZ 43 KW-D) PHILADELPHIA, PA ARE COMPLETE AND THE DATA IS BEING ANALYZED. MEASUREMENTS ON ADJACENT CHANNEL WAMD (970 KHZ 0.3 KW DA-D, ABERDEEN MD) ARE COMPLETE AND BEING ANALYZED. MEASUREMENTS ON CO-CHANNEL WTGM (960 KHZ 5 KW DA-2-U SALISBURY MD) WILL BE COMPLETED SOON. CLOSE IN MEASUREMENTS ON WHYL (TAPE MEASURE) NEED TO BE COMPLETED; THIS IS A TWO MAN JOB.

WHYL ANTICIPATES REQUESTING A OPERATING POWER LEVEL AROUND 5 KW, SUPPORTED BY THE EXTENSIVE MEASUREMENTS ON WHYL FROM THE STA SITE, AND ON THE AFFECTED STATIONS. THIS IS IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST SINCE THE 301 WILL REQUEST A FINAL POWER FOR WHYL SUPPORTED BY MEASUREMENTS MADE DURING THE STA STAGE, RATHER THAN THE CUSTOMARY 'TWO STEP' 301 APPLICATIONS, SAVING WHYL TIME AND MONEY, AND ONLY ONE 301 APPLICATION IS REQUIRED WITH THE FCC.
