Description:
STA REQUEST NARRATIVE

THE DAYTIME POWER OUTPUT OF WNEG(AM)HAS BEEN REDUCED FROM 5,000 WATTS TO 3,000 WATTS DUE TO STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMITTING TOWER. LICENSEE SUSPECTS SEVERAL OF THE GUYED WIRE INSULATORS HAVE CRACKED WHICH HAS LED TO A DEGRADATION OF THE STATION'S PROGRAMMING AUDIO WHEN STATION TRANSMITTS AT 5,000 WATTS. WITH POWER REDUCED TO 3,000 WATTS, THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARS. A CAREFUL ANALYSIS OF THE TOWER WILL BE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE IF IT CAN BE REPAIRED OR WILL BE NECESSARY TO REPLACE. THE BOTTOM 120 FEET OF THE TOWER DATES BACK 1961 WHEN THE STATION MOVED FROM 1320 KHZ TO 630 KHZ WHILE THE TOP 180 FEET DATES BACK TO 1956.LICENSEE REQUESTS SPECIAL TEMPORARY AUTHORITY TO OPERATE DURING DAYTIME HOURS AT 3,000 WATTS FOR A PERIOD OF 180 DAYS. ANOTHER EXTENSION OF THE STA IS NECESSARY DUE TO EXTREMELY WET CONDITIONS AT THE TOWER SITE MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR REPAIRS TO BE MADE TO THE TOWER.
