Description:
EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES

AS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED TO THE COMMISSION, AN INTENSE LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS MOVED THROUGH THE MIDLAND/ODESSA AREA ON MARCH 12, 2019. THE STORM HAD INTENSE LIGHTNING AND HIGH WINDS, CAUSING THE ENTIRE CITY OF MIDLAND TO LOSE POWER FOR THREE HOURS. DURING THAT PERIOD, THE STATION'S TOWER APPARENTLY WAS STRUCK BY LIGHTNING, TAKING OUT THE AUDIO SECTION OF THE TRANSMITTER AND SOME OTHER NON-ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT. AS A RESULT, THE LICENSEE TOOK THE TRANSMITTER OUT OF SERVICE FOR REPAIR.

ALTHOUGH THE STATION HAS NOW RETURNED TO AIR AT REDUCED POWER USING A BACK-UP TRANSMITTER, THE LICENSEE HAS ORDERED A NEW TRANSMITTER AND IS NOW WAITING FOR INSTALLATION TO TAKE PLACE. INSTALLATION HAS BEEN DELAYED, HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF NECESSARY CONSTRUCTION AT THE TRANSMITTER SITE.
