Description:
EXH. 36 REASONS FOR STA EXTENSION

ON JANUARY 9, 2007, THE COMMISSION GRANTED A SIX-MONTH STA TO ALLOW STATION WSIU-DT TO OPERATE AT 50% REDUCED POWER (500 KW) DUE TO ONE CABINET NOT BEING IN OPERATION. THE STATION HAS BEEN ABLE TO RESUME FULL POWER INTERMITTENTLY DURING THE CURRENT STA PERIOD, SOMETIMES FOR SEVERAL DAYS, BUT A PERMANENT FIX HAS NOT BEEN FOUND. STATION PERSONNEL HAVE EXHAUSTED THEIR REPAIR EFFORTS AND HAVE AGAIN CALLED UPON THE EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER (LARCON) TO COME TO CARBONDALE TO EXAMINE AND SOLVE THE SITUATION ON A PERMANENT BASIS.

WSIU-DT'S CURRENT STA EXPIRES ON JULY 9, 2007. SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY IS UNABLE TO STATE AT THE PRESENT TIME WHEN FULL-POWER OPERATIONS WILL RESUME, BUT IT HOPES THAT THE PROBLEM WILL BE RESOLVED WITHIN THE NEXT 30-60 DAYS. NEVERTHELESS, OUT OF ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION, AN STA EXTENSION ALLOWING WSIU-DT TO OPERATE AT 50% REDUCED POWER FOR SIX MORE MONTHS IS RESPECTFULLY REQUESTED.
