GENERAL POLICY

A broadcast station must provide equal employment opportunity to all qualified individuals without regard to their race, color, national origin, religion or sex in all personnel actions including recruitment, evaluation, selection, promotion, compensation, training and termination.

#1 WNIN PARTICIPATED IN A JOB FAIR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF EVANSVILLE ON FEBRUARY 19, 2008. 30-40 STUDENTS STOPPED TO SPEAK WITH OUR RECRUITER, OUR VP OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION, SUBMIT RESUMES, AND PICK UP INFORMATION ON INTERNSHIPS AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT WNIN. AS A RESULT, WE ARE INTERVIEWING SEVERAL CANDIDATES FOR SUMMER AND FALL INTERNSHIPS. AT LEAST HALF OF THE APPLICANTS WERE WOMEN AND SEVERAL WERE MINORITIES.

#1 WNIN PARTICIPATED IN A JOB FAIR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN INDIANA ON FEBRUARY 27, 2008. 40-50 STUDENTS STOPPED TO SPEAK WITH OUR RECRUITER, OUR VP OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION, MANY OF WHO WERE WOMEN AND SEVERAL WHO WERE MINORITIES. MANY BROADCAST MAJORS EXPRESSED INTEREST IN INTERNSHIPS. WE ARE INTERVIEWING CANDIDATES FOR A PART-TIME RADIO POSITION CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AND FOR INTERNSHIPS.

#4 SPONSORSHIP OF COMMUNITY EVENT DESIGNED TO INFORM AND EDUCATE THE PUBLIC AS TO EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN BROADCASTING. WE HOSTED 5 EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS FROM PERRY HEIGHTS MIDDLE SCHOOL ON FEBRUARY 2, 2008 AS PART OF THE NATIONAL JOB SHADOW PROGRAM. THIS IS THE EIGHTH YEAR WE PARTICIPATED IN THE PROGRAM. THESE STUDENTS ARRIVED BY SCHOOL BUS AT WNIN IN THE MORNING. THEY RECEIVED A TOUR OF THE STATION, AND THEN WERE TAKEN TO THEIR RESPECTIVE MANAGERS. EACH MANAGER REVIEWED A STUDENTS RESUME, WAS INTERVIEWED BY A STUDENT ABOUT THEIR JOB AT THE STATION, LET THE STUDENTS SEE SOME OF THEIR DAILY ACTIVITIES, AND HAD THE STUDENTS ACCOMPLISH SEVERAL TASKS RELATED TO THEIR JOB. OUR TV DEPARTMENT WORKED WITH STUDENTS ALLOWING THEM TO CREATE SIMPLE PRODUCTION GRAPHICS AND SEE THEIR WORK ON TV. THE STUDENTS AND THEIR HOST MANAGERS THEN HAD LUNCH TOGETHER. AFTER LUNCH THE STUDENTS RECEIVED THEIR CERTIFICATES AND WERE PICKED UP BY SCHOOL BUSES TO RETURN TO SCHOOL.

#5 WNINS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM CONTINUES TO GROW AND EXPAND. WE HAD 1 INTERN FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF EVANSVILLE, AND 3 FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN INDIANA HOLD INTERNSHIPS THROUGH THE UNIVERSITYS FORMAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IN 2007 AND 2008. THEY WORKED AT LEAST 150 HOURS AND RECEIVED COLLEGE CREDIT FOR THE INTERNSHIPS. ONE WORKED IN TV PRODUCTION AND PROGRAMMING BOTH FALL 2007 AND SPRING 2008, ONE ASSISTED WITH OUR ANNUAL KIDS FEST IN THE SUMMER 2007, ONE WORKED AS A MARKETING/PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERN FOR BOTH FALL 2007 AND SPRING 2008, AND ONE WORKED AS A DEVELOPMENT/MEMBERSHIP INTERN IN THE FALL 2007. WE ARE INTERVIEWING STUDENTS FOR INTERNSHIPS FOR THE SUMMER AND FALL 2008 AND HOPE TO HIRE SEVERAL SHORTLY.

#8 WNIN EMPLOYEES PARTICIPATE IN ONGOING JOB TRAINING. MANY EMPLOYEES ATTEND SEMINARS, WORKSHOPS AND CONFERENCES TO FURTHER DEVELOP THE SKILLS NEEDED FOR THEIR POSITIONS AND ENABLE THEM TO PERFORM OTHER JOBS OF INTEREST. OUR VP OF DEVELOPMENT ATTENDED THE DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE IN OCTOBER 2007 TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE OF SPECIFIC TRACKING MEASURES AND PROGRAMS THAT WORK AT OTHER STATIONS TO HELP OUR DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT. OUR DIRECTOR OF CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT ALSO ATTENDED A WORKSHOP AND THE DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE TO GAIN SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE RELATED TO UNDERWRITING TO HELP HER GROW THIS AREA FOR WNIN. WE ALSO INSTALLED NEW MASTER CONTROL AND PRODUCTION DIGITAL EQUIPMENT AND CONDUCTED SEVERAL SESSIONS OF IN-HOUSE TRAINING FOR PRODUCTION, MASTER CONTROL AND ENGINEERING STAFF ON THIS NEW EQUIPMENT. OUTSIDE EXPERTS CAME IN FOR A WEEK AT A TIME FOR A TOTAL OF 3 WEEKS AND WERE ABLE TO TRAIN MULTIPLE STAFF AT ONE TIME.

#12 LISTING EACH UPPER-LEVEL CATEGORY OPENING IN A NEWSLETTER OF MEDIA TRADES WHOSE MEMBERSHIP INCLUDES SUBSTANTIAL PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN AND MINORITIES. WE LISTED THE VP OF RADIO POSITION IN CURRENT, A NATIONAL NEWSPAPER STRICTLY FOR PUBLIC TELEVISION AND PUBLIC RADIO, WHOSE SUBSCRIBERS INCLUDE STATIONS WITH MANY WOMEN AND MINORITY EMPLOYEES. THIS POSITION IS STILL CURRENTLY OPEN BUT WAS LISTED IN NOVEMBER 2007. WE ALSO LISTED THE RADIO NEWS REPORTER/PRODUCER OPENING IN THIS SAME PUBLICATION.

#1 - WNIN PARTICIPATED IN A JOB FAIR AT THE CARVER COMMUNITY CENTER SPONSORED BY THE INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT ON OCTOBER 14, 2008. 50-60 PEOPLE STOPPED TO SPEAK WITH OUR RECRUITER, OUR VP OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION, SUBMIT RESUMES AND PICK UP INFORMATION ON EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT WNIN. MANY OF THESE WERE MINORITIES AND WOMEN, A NUMBER OF WHICH WERE CURRENTLY LAID OFF AND SEEKING BETTER OPPORTUNITIES.

#1 WNIN PARTICIPATED IN A JOB FAIR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF EVANSVILLE ON FEBRUARY 17, 2009. 30-40 STUDENTS STOPPED TO SPEAK WITH OUR RECRUITER, OUR VP OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION, ABOUT INTERNSHIPS AND PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES. ABOUT 2/3 OF THESE WERE WOMEN AND SEVERAL WERE MINORITIES, INCLUDING MANY BROADCAST AND MUSIC MAJORS. WNIN HOPES TO FILL INTERNSHIPS IN TELEVISION, RADIO, PUBLIC RELATIONS, SPECIAL EVENTS AND NEW MEDIA/WEB.

#1 WNIN PARTICIPATED IN A JOB FAIR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN INDIANA ON FEBRUARY 18, 2009. 40-50 STUDENTS STOPPED TO SPEAK WITH OUR RECRUITER, OUR VP OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION, ABOUT INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AND PART-TIME AUCTION POSITIONS. ABOUT HALF OF THE INTERESTED CANDIDATES WERE WOMEN AND MINORITIES.

#4 PARTICIPATION IN AN ACTIVITY SPONSORED BY A COMMUNITY GROUP TO INFORM OTHERS ABOUT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN BROADCASTING. WE HOSTED 10 EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS FROM PERRY HEIGHTS MIDDLE SCHOOL ON FEBRUARY 20, 2009 AS PART OF THE NATIONAL JOB SHADOW PROGRAM. THIS IS THE NINTH YEAR WE HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE PROGRAM. THESE STUDENTS ARRIVED BY SCHOOL BUS AT WNIN IN THE MORNING. THEY RECEIVED A TOUR OF THE STATION, AND THEN WERE TAKEN TO THEIR RESPECTIVE MANAGERS. EACH MANAGER REVIEWED A STUDENTS RESUME, WAS INTERVIEWED BY A STUDENT ABOUT THEIR JOB AT THE STATION, LET THE STUDENTS SEE SOME OF THEIR DAILY ACTIVITIES, AND HAD THE STUDENTS ACCOMPLISH SEVERAL TASKS RELATED TO THEIR JOB. THE STUDENTS AND THEIR HOST MANAGERS THEN HAD LUNCH TOGETHER. AFTER LUNCH THE STUDENTS RECEIVED THEIR CERTIFICATES AND WERE PICKED UP BY SCHOOL BUSES TO RETURN TO SCHOOL.

#4 WNIN SPONSORED AND PARTICIPATED IN THE TRI-STATE BUSINESS EXPO PRESENTED BY THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OF SOUTHWEST INDIANA ON MARCH 12, 2009 AT THE CENTRE. THE EVENT WAS SPONSORED BY 13-14 AREA BUSINESSES AND WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FREE OF CHARGE. WNIN PRESENTED INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SERVICES AND WHAT WE CAN PROVIDE FOR THE COMMUNITY, WHO WE ARE AND TYPES OF OPPORTUNITIES AT THE STATION.

#5 WNINS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM CONTINUES TO GROW AND EXPAND. WE HAD 2 INTERNS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF EVANSVILLE AND 2 FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN INDIANA HOLD INTERNSHIPS THROUGH THE UNIVERSITYS FORMAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IN 2008 AND 2009. THEY WORKED AT LEAST 150 HOURS AND RECEIVED COLLEGE CREDIT FOR THE INTERNSHIPS. ONE WORKED IN TV PRODUCTION AND PROGRAMMING FOR TWO SEMESTERS THROUGH SPRING 2008, ONE WORKED AS A MARKETING/PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERN FOR TWO SEMESTERS THROUGH SPRING 2008, ONE IS WORKING AS A COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT INTERN FOR THE SPRING AND SUMMER 2009, AND ONE IS WORKING AS AN AUCTION INTERN FOR THE SPRING 2009. WE ARE INTERVIEWING STUDENTS FOR THE SUMMER AND FALL 2009 FOR TELEVISION, RADIO, DEVELOPMENT AND WEB INTERNSHIPS AND HOPE TO HIRE SEVERAL SHORTLY.

#8 WNIN EMPLOYEES PARTICIPATE IN ONGOING JOB TRAINING. MANY EMPLOYEES ATTEND SEMINARS, WORKSHOPS AND CONFERENCES TO FURTHER DEVELOP THE SKILLS NEEDED FOR THEIR POSITIONS AND ENABLE THEM TO PERFORM OTHER JOBS OF INTEREST. OUR VP OF DEVELOPMENT ATTENDED THE DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE IN OCTOBER 2008 TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE OF SPECIFIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS THAT HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL AT OTHER STATIONS TO HELP OUR DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT. OUR DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND GENERAL MANAGER ATTENDED PBS SHOWSTOP TO ASSIST IN STRATEGIC AND LONG-TERM PLANNING FOR THE STATION. MANY EMPLOYEES ALSO ATTENDED LOCAL SEMINARS AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES TO FURTHER ENHANCE THEIR SKILLS AND JOB PERFORMANCE, SUCH AS GRANT WRITING, READY TO LEARN, AND FINANCE AND HUMAN RESOURCE TOPICS. WE PROMOTED A PART-TIME EMPLOYEE TO A FULL-TIME POSITION IN THE SAME DEPARTMENT, FROM AUCTION ASSISTANT TO AUCTION/EVENTS MANAGER.

#12 LISTING EACH UPPER-LEVEL CATEGORY OPENING IN A NEWSLETTER OF MEDIA TRADES WHOSE MEMBERSHIP INCLUDES SUBSTANTIAL PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN AND MINORITIES. WE LISTED THE VP OF RADIO POSITION IN CURRENT, A NATIONAL NEWSPAPER STRICTLY FOR PUBLIC TELEVISION AND PUBLIC RADIO, WHOSE SUBSCRIBERS INCLUDE STATIONS WITH MANY WOMEN AND MINORITY EMPLOYEES, AND ALSO USED A NATIONAL SEARCH & RECRUITMENT FIRM THAT SPECIALIZES IN HELPING PUBLIC BROADCASTERS FILL UPPER-LEVEL OPENINGS. BOTH TELEVISION OPENINGS WERE LISTED ON NEWJOBTREE.COM, A LOCAL WEBSITE TO POST OPENINGS IN THE TRI-STATE AREA, THAT IS RUN BY A LOCAL TELEVISION STATION AFFILIATE OF A NATIONAL NETWORK.
